The responsible planner, fleet managers and businesses can all be held accountable for non-compliance, in some cases jail time may be given, and operational licences can be revoked. Governing bodies will look into the training that was given and practices taken to ensure legal driving hours.
Vehicle downtime shouldn't stop you from being compliant, with MESH digital tachograph you can remotely download your data from wherever you are. Your data must be analysed frequently, at a minimum of 28 days for every driver, and 90 for each vehicle.
If your drivers switch between vehicles within a day, week or month it is important that you are seamlessly monitoring their hours at all times. The Tachograph ID cards read the dates, times and total distance of driving, and include all relevant information for compliance, which downloads into your MESH Telematics Dashboard.
Each driver must only have one driver's card.
Applications for Tachograph cards in the UK are all done through the DVLA. However, this can vary from country to country. You must fill out your ‘D777B/DL application form for a digital tachograph driver card and post it to the DVLA, this is also how you would source a replacement, damaged or renewed card, this can be done by the individual or fleet manager.
